This unit was formed from remnants of the 24th, 27th, 29th, 30th, and 34th Regiments of Mississippi Infantry at Smithfield, North Carolina, April 9, 1865, on the orders of Gen. Joseph E. Johnston. Johnston’s army, of which this unit was a part, was surrendered on April 26, 1865.
