This regiment was formed by order of Gen. J. E. Johnston (special orders No. 25) April 9, 1865, near Smithfield, N. C., of the fragments of the Fourteenth and Forty-third Regiments and seven companies of the Sixth, in Adams' Brigade. Johnstons army was surrendered on April 26, 1865. Following is the roster of officers assigned. The date of rank, in each case, is 9 April, 1865, unless otherwise given.
