Memorial Service Committee Resolutions Committee Save the Battleflags Committee ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SAVE THE BATTLEFLAGS COMMITTEE (STBF) Purpose, Membership, and Duties Purpose: The "Save the Battleflags Committee" (STBF) will raise funds through car tag sales, commemorative flag coffee cup sales, donations, and other Division-approved mechanisms to restore/conserve original Mississippi Confederate Battleflags, specifically and primarily those in the MS Dept. of Archives & History's "Old Capitol" Collection, but also including Mississippi Confederate Battleflags in other non-private collections after all such flags in the Old Capitol Collection are restored/conserved. STBF will also produce informational brochures related to each commemorative coffee cup issue and coordinate the posting of same on the Division Website with the Division Webmaster. [Note: The "Old Capitol" Collection may be moved to the new Mississippi History Museum when said museum is completed. Though the Collection may acquire a new name at that time, it shall still be the purpose of STBF to restore/conserve those flags.] STBF will consist of a Chairman and a sufficient number of Members to accomplish the purposes of the Committee. Every effort will be made to have at least one STBF Member from each Brigade of the Mississippi Division, with the Chairman acting as the Brigade representative from his own Brigade. However, if a highly motivated Member cannot be found for a particular Brigade, the Commander may appoint additional Members from anywhere in the Division. All Members of STBF will be Members in good standing of the Mississippi Division. Duties: Chairman -- The STBF Chairman will be appointed by and will serve at the pleasure of the Division Commander. He shall be a person well-acquainted with MDAH personnel, highly knowledgeable about Mississippi Confederate Battleflags, and supremely dedicated to active participation in the restoration/conservation of said colors. His duties will include:
Members -- STBF Members will be appointed by the Division Commander, with input from the Chairman of STBF as requested. They will serve at the pleasure of the Division Commander, but will not be removed from STBF without his first informing the Chairman of STBF. Like the Chairman, Members should be highly knowledgeable about Mississippi Confederate Battleflags and supremely dedicated to active participation in the restoration/conservation of said colors. Their duties will include: (1) acting as chief interface between the MS Division and MDAH for flag restoration/conservation purposes; this shall include selection of flags for restoration/conservation (with input from the STBF Committee) and presentation of Division funds for same to MDAH and/or other non-private collections; (2) directing STBF activities, with input from the Members thereof; (3) promoting an interest in Mississippi Confederate Battleflags and restoration/conservation thereof both within and without the Mississippi Division; (4) approving all promotional materials produced by STBF (specifically brochures or information sheets, but to include all other such materials, including audio/visual); (4) informing the Membership from time to time, through the Division Commander or Division Communications Officer, of the activities of STBF; (5) receiving proceeds from various Division-approved flag restoration/conservation fund-raising activities and forwarding same to the Division Adjutant; (6) having email for purposes of clear and immediate communications with STBF; (7) keeping STBF Members fully informed of issues and activities germane to the purpose, goals, and activities of the Committee; and, (8) accepting other duties and responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned him by the Division Commander. (1) actively raising funds to restore Mississippi Confederate Battleflags through Division-approved mechanisms and programs and via encouragement of private donations; (2) supporting the STBF Chairman via active input regarding flag restoration/conservation including selection of flags for restoration/conservation; (3) promoting an interest in Mississippi Confederate Battleflag restoration/conservation via an active program of visiting Division Camps and sharing information about STBF programs and fund-raising mechanisms; (4) keeping the STBF Chairman informed of their STBF activities via regular communication with said Chairman; (5) assisting in the production and dissemination of promotional STBF materials; (6) forwarding all STBF funds to the Chairman in a timely manner; (7) exhibiting a strong desire to restore/conserve Mississippi Confederate Battleflags and taking a very active part in raising monies to do same; (8) having email for purposes of clear and immediate communications with STBF; and, (9) accepting other duties as may be from time to time assigned by the STBF Chairman. Approved by Chairman Ron Stowers on 8/13/2007 END STBF COMMITTEE SECTION ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DIVISION MEMORIAL SERVICE COMMITTEE Purpose, Membership, and Duties Purpose: The Division Memorial Service Committee will have charge of providing and promoting the Division's annual Confederate Memorial Day memorial service at Beauvoir. Membership: The Division Memorial Service Committee will consist of a Chairman and a sufficient number of Members to accomplish the purposes of the Committee. Under ordinary circumstances, a total of 3-5 Members (counting the Chairman) shall constitute this Committee. Duties: Chairman -- The Division Memorial Service Committee Chairman will be appointed by and will serve at the pleasure of the Division Commander. He shall be a person well-acquainted with Beauvoir and have easy and convenient access to same for planning and site preparation purposes. His duties will include: (1) overseeing a successful Division Memorial Service, to include a keynote speaker, guests of honor, music, a rifle squad, cannon(s) when available, a color squad, presentation of memorial wreaths from SCV Camps and other Confederate organizations, a quality memorial service souvenir program, and the playing of "Taps" or "Last Call" (the last bugle call that Southern Patriots heard in camp); (2) overseeing the activities of the Division Memorial Service Committee as a whole; (3) directing the activities of individual Division Memorial Service Committee Members; (4) interfacing with the Division Commander, Division Officers, Division Camps, and Division Members regarding assistance in and promotion of the memorial service; (5) conferring with the Division Commander regarding special guests and speakers for the memorial service; (6) maintaining email for purposes of clear and immediate communications with Division Memorial Service Committee Members, as well as with the Division Commander; (7) keeping each of the Members of the Division Memorial Service Committee fully informed of all tasks assigned to the Committee, thereby ensuring maximum efficiency and effort by each Member; (8) ensuring that the Division Memorial Service Committee fulfills its responsibilities and purposes in a timely and professional manner; (9) promoting the Division Memorial Service through local TV and radio, email, the Division website, and the Division newsletter; and, (10) accepting other duties and responsibilities clearly related to the memorial service as may from time to time be assigned him by the Division Commander. Members -- Division Memorial Service Committee Members will be appointed by the Division Commander, with input from the Chairman of the Division Memorial Service Committee as requested. They will serve at the pleasure of the Division Commander, but will not be removed from the Division Memorial Service Committee without his first informing the Chairman of said Committee. Like the Chairman, Members should be persons well-acquainted with Beauvoir and be willing to travel to Beauvoir to personally participate in the memorial service. Their duties will include: (1) supporting the Division Memorial Service Committee Chairman via active input and output regarding the memorial service; (2) accepting of all customary and reasonable work assignments charged to them by the Chairman of the Division Memorial Service Committee; (3) keeping the Division Memorial Service Committee Chairman informed of their activities, including progress on various aspects of the memorial service, via regular communication with said Chairman; (4) assisting the Membership when they have any questions about attending or participating in the memorial service; (5) forwarding all requests for participation in the memorial service to the Chairman in a timely manner; (6) exhibiting a strong desire to serve on the Division Memorial Service Committee; (7) maintaining email for purposes of clear and immediate communications with the Division Memorial Service Chairman; and, (8) accepting other duties as may be from time to time assigned by the Division Memorial Service Committee Chairman. Purpose, Membership, and Duties Purpose: The Resolutions Committee will supply the Division Convention with appropriate resolutions reflecting the sentiments of the Division in Convention assembled. Additionally, the Resolutions Committee will, when called upon by the Division Commander, supply said officer with appropriate resolutions reflecting the sentiments of the Commander (and, through him, the Division) for various and sundry occasions as may arise between Conventions. All resolutions produced by the committee will be of such a quality -- verbally, materially, and visually -- to reflect honorably on the Mississippi Division. All resolutions adopted by the Division in Convention shall be made a permanent part of the official record of said Convention. Membership: The Resolutions Committee will consist of a Chairman and a sufficient number of Members to accomplish the purposes of the Committee. Under ordinary circumstances, a total of 3-5 Members (counting the Chairman) shall constitute this Committee. He shall be a person well-acquainted with the elements of proper expression in the English language, both verbal and written. His duties will include: (1) overseeing the activities of the Resolutions Committee as a whole; (2) directing the activities of individual Resolutions Committee Members; (3) receiving recommendations for resolutions from the Division Commander, Division Officers, Division Camps, and Division Members; (4) conferring with the Division Commander regarding which submitted resolutions shall be accepted by the Division and the Resolutions Committee for action; (5) maintaining email for purposes of clear and immediate communications with Resolutions Committee Members, as well as with the Division Commander; (6) keeping each of the Members of the Resolutions Committee fully informed of all tasks assigned to the Committee, thereby ensuring maximum efficiency and effort by each Member; (7) ensuring that the Resolutions Committee fulfills its responsibilities and purposes in a timely and professional manner; and, (8) accepting other duties and responsibilities clearly related to the resolutions function as may from time to time be assigned him by the Division Commander. Purpose, Membership, and Duties Purpose: The Bricks for Beauvoir Committee (BFB) will sell commemorative, engraved bricks honoring Confederate soldiers, units, and leaders to raise funds to fulfill three functions: (1) to enhance the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Beauvoir; (2) to raise operating funds for Beauvoir; and, (3) at the request of both the Commander of the MS Division and the Combined Boards of Beauvoir, to enhance other areas and create cobbled walkways as continuing beautification and fund-raising efforts at Beauvoir. Membership: BFB will consist of a Chairman and a sufficient number of Members to accomplish the purposes of the Committee. All Members of BFB will be Members in good standing of the Mississippi Division. Duties: Chairman -- The BFB Chairman will be appointed by and will serve at the pleasure of the Division Commander. He will be familiar with Beauvoir and dedicated to its restoration and conservation. His duties will include: (1) interfacing with the Combined Boards of Beauvoir and the Commander of the MS Division regarding all phases of brick design, brick sales, brick engraving, and brick installation; (2) directing all BFB activities, with input from the Members thereof; (3) promoting an interest in the restoration and conservation of both Beauvoir and the Tomb of the Unknown Confederate Soldier through the specific vehicle of Bricks for Beauvoir; (4) approving all promotional materials produced by BFB (specifically brochures or information sheets, but to include all other such materials, including audio/visual, internet, etc.); (5) informing the Membership from time to time, through the Division Commander or Division Communications Officer, of the activities of BFB; (6) receiving orders for BFB bricks, relaying funds for same to the Division Adjutant in a timely manner, and interfacing with the brick-maker on behalf of the Division and Beauvoir; (7) maintaining email for purposes of clear and immediate communications with BFB; (8) keeping BFB Members fully informed of issues and activities germane to the purpose, goals, and activities of the Committee; and, (9) accepting other duties and responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned him by the Division Commander. (1) supporting the BFB Chairman via active input regarding BFB activities; (2) actively promoting an interest in the restoration and conservation of both Beauvoir and the Tomb of the Unknown Confederate Soldier through the specific vehicle of Bricks for Beauvoir; (3) actively working to make Camps in the Division aware of the BFB program through visits to Camps and programs/presentations about BFB to same; (4) keeping the BFB Chairman informed of their BFB activities via regular communication with said Chairman; (5) assisting in the production and dissemination of promotional BFB materials, including on the Internet; (6) maintaining email for purposes of clear and immediate communications with BFB; and, (8) accepting other duties as may be from time to time assigned by the BFB Chairman. Members -- BFB Members will be appointed by the Division Commander, with input from the Chairman of BFB as requested. They will serve at the pleasure of the Division Commander, but will not be removed from BFB without his first informing the Chairman of BFB.
